Our Favorite Celebrity Golfers
When you think about celebrities, what comes to mind? For us, it’s Hollywood, scandals, fortune, fame, and of course, golf. We asked around the office and across social media to find out who the average golfer would want to pair up with if they had the chance to be the fourth in a celebrity foursome. Let’s break down a few of our favorites!
#10. Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake is best known as the leadman for everyone’s favorite 90’s boy band, NSYNC but music isn’t his only passion. In his free time, Justin can be found on the golf course working on his already impressive swing. As of 2020, Timberlake’s handicap was a solid 6.0 which would make him a great addition to any group, especially a celebrity Pro-Am event that he has frequently attended throughout his career. Timberlake is one of the only celebrities to host his own event on the PGA Tour; The Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, held from 2008-2012. The winners of this event include Kevin Na, Martin Laird, and Ryan Moore. Considering the amount of celebrity and professional golf tournaments that Timberlake has been involved in, he’s sure to have some incredible stories.
#9. Alfonso Ribeiro
Alfonso Ribeiro gained his fame as Carlton, a fun-loving, dancing, supporting character in the popular 90’s sitcom, Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Although he was an athlete growing up, Alfonso didn’t begin playing golf until he was 18 years old but immediately fell in love with the game. To this day, he is an avid golfer and makes frequent appearances on golf shows like the Foreplay podcast and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Alfonso hovers between a 2-4 handicap which makes him an impressive player. Alfonso would be a fun addition to a foursome, especially if he did the Carlton Dance after making a birdie.
#8. Steph Curry
It’s common for professional athletes to pick up golf on the side but very few are as talented of a player as Steph Curry who currently sits at a ridiculous +2.2 handicap which makes him better than scratch. Curry has hinted at making golf a career path once he retires from the course. Curry loves golf so much that he is now the host of his own mini golf show on ABC called Holey Moley and he’s a regular celebrity appearance at Pro-Am tournaments. Curry is also giving back to the game by launching a new junior golf tour called the Underrated Tour which will be played at some of the best venues in the world at no cost to the kids. The first event kicks off in Chicago at Cog Hill at the end of June. He might kick our ass but we’d love to watch Steph play up close and personal!
#7. Larry David
This pick goes out to all the golfers out there who came up watching shows like Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. With decades of experience working side-by-side with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, you know he has some stories that you wouldn’t believe. Combine that with the best on-course, observational humor you will ever hear, he’s a surefire pick for a fun round of golf. At his best, David’s handicap is around an 11 which makes him a good fit for a casual round.
#6. George Lopez
George Lopez is best known for his hit ABC show George Lopez which aired from 2002-2007 and his stand-up comedy but did you know that he’s also an avid golfer? Lopez is a decent player with a handicap of around 11. He also hosts The George Lopez Golf Classic at Lakeside Country Club in California where the proceeds go to help children who are battling kidney disease. His energy and jokes would bring the positive vibes that every round of golf could use more of.
#5. Aaron Rodgers
Not only is Aaron Rodgers an NFL champion and two-time league MVP, but he’s also a talented golfer as well with an impressive 4 handicap. We’ve seen Rodgers’ game on display when he teamed up with Bryson Dechambeau to defeat Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson in Capital One’s The Match series. We’ll see him make an appearance again this summer when Rodgers and Tom Brady team up against Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen on June 1st. In the past, he has seemed closed off and reserved but we have seen Rodgers open up more over the past several years. After a few beers on the course, you know he’d been telling tales of his time in the NFL.
#4. Patrick Mahomes
Keeping it in the realm of all-star quarterbacks and guests on The Match series, Patrick Mahomes is another one of our choices to fill out a fantasy foursome. From the start of his career, he has presented himself as a positive and fun-loving guy that always fits in well on the course. As far as his handicap goes, he doesn’t currently keep an official handicap but he is reportedly around a 7 index.
#3. Matthew McConaughey
If you’re looking to add a couple of cool points to your foursome, you can’t go wrong with the ultimate cool guy, Matthew McConaughey… alright alright alright. He has been in the movie game since his breakout role in Dazed and Confused (1993) and has been on top of the industry ever since. McConaughey has been playing golf since he was young and his reported low handicap is a very impressive 4. Listening to him discuss the true behind-the-scenes moments in some of your favorite movies with that iconic southern drawl would be an all-time round of golf.
#2. Bill Murray
Everybody knows Bill Murray and the fun-loving characters that he has portrayed throughout his career in movies like Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, and countless more. Along with being a renowned actor, he’s not too shabby with a club in his hands. Bill Murray has a handicap of around 7 and he is often present at Pro-Am tournaments like the AT&T Pebble Beach where he entertains the crowd with his wild outfits and on-course antics like hitting putts without looking and cracking jokes with the spectators. If you played a round with Bill Murray, you’re guaranteed to leave with a story.
#1. Michael Jordan
If you ask any sports fan and golf fanatic above the age of thirty to fill out a fantasy foursome, you’re guaranteed to hear Michael Jordan in that list more times than not. Michael Jordan is arguably the most famous celebrity golfer of all time and has reportedly played golf before big games. Jordan has a handicap between 1-3 which makes him a tough competitor to those who go up against him. If you’re playing with Jordan you better bring your wallet or take out a loan because he has been rumored to bet $100,000 per hole in the past. Being in the cart with him as he smokes the most expensive cigar you’ve ever seen while telling stories of some of sports' greatest moments is a dream round.
